History of the bomber jacket

Its creator, Leslie Lorey Irvin, patented the design of the first bomber jacket in 1926 with the aim of protecting and keeping aviators warm at high flight altitudes and very low temperatures. The popularity of the bomber jacket grew, and its wearers were also identified with war heroes, so its use progressively spread naturally to the civilian sphere. The first models of bomber jackets were made of leather on the outside and sheepskin on the inside, but these materials were replaced by more modern and lighter ones until reaching the current nylon and polyester.
